Abstract

This project presents a plan for a six-month international research internship (BEPE) as part of the proponent's doctoral research, funded by the 'Fundação de Amparo à Pesquisa do Estado de São Paulo' (FAPESP) and supervised by Dr. Eduardo Góes Neves. The BEPE internship is programmed to occur in Bournemouth University in the United Kingdom (UK) between the months of December 2021 and June 2022 and will be supervised by Dr. Phillip Riris with collaboration from Dr. Mark Gillings. The project focus will be the training and application of computational archaeology studies, especially chronological analysis techniques and GIS-based approaches, which both researchers are experts in, to the study of long-term precolonial Amazonian historical processes, particularly the dispersal of Amazonian Polychrome ceramic tradition, a process known as Polychrome Expansion. With training and guidance from UK supervisor, I intend to test a hypothesis of two distinct moments of the Polychrome Expansion evidenced by transformations in pottery production and settlement patterns building a dataset with this evidence from the AmazonArch database. Investigation paths and results will be compiled in a paper with Brazil and UK supervisors. (AU)
