Abstract

The phenomenon of green gentrification, analyzed by Gould and Lewis (2016) incorporates the dimension of Environmental Justice by demonstrating that the implementation of infrastructure that improves the environmental quality of an area can also exclude former residents and make it impossible for them to remain in the place, due to the increase of prices and real estate valuation (TORRES et al., 2019). In the Global North, the field of study on this process is already more developed than in Brazil, despite all the potential and specificities presented by the country for research in this area. This fact stimulated the proposal of the project "Green Gentrification: contribution to a debate in the field of urban planning", which turns to a specific case study, the Elevado Presidente João Goulart, in São Paulo. It is in this context that the research internship abroad, at the "Barcelona Laboratorio sobre Justicia y Sostenibilidad Ambiental Urbana" (BCNUEJ) proves to be important as a tool to analyze a Brazilian case, considering the contributions that the experience with specialized researchers in the area and references for the project, and that contact with exemplary cases of green gentrification can offer. Therefore, during the internship, the intention is to participate in discussions with experts, visit places already considered to be participants in green gentrification processes and continue the literature review. Such experiences will certainly contribute to the evolution of this field of studies in Brazil, allowing associations between the Brazilian and Barcelona contexts, with the identification of similarities and differences.
