Abstract

Worldwide more than 1.300.000 of deaths were attributed to severe acute respiratory syndrome induced by the new coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2), which has been declared a pandemic. A portion of patients infected with SARS-CoV-2 (~ 20%) have severe respiratory symptoms which require intensive therapy with oxygen support increasing hospital length to treat the disease. Thus, the present project aims to evaluate the effect of a home-based exercise training program on functional capacity in COVID-19 survivors. To this end, a randomized controlled clinical trial will be conducted, in which patients will be randomized to the intervention (home-based exercise training program) or control (conventional post-treatment) groups. Before and after the intervention period (12 weeks), patients will be assessed for functional capacity, through physical tests and questionnaires. At the end of the 12-week intervention, it is expected that patients allocated to the home-based program will improve functional capacity compared to patients in the control group.(AU)
