Abstract This project aims to examine the imagery related to the reflection on the process of making poetry and the figure of the poet present in poems written by Augusto dos Anjos. The selected corpus is formed by four long poems published in Eu (1912) that address the poetic process: "Insônia", "Queixas Noturnas", "Tristezas de um Quarto Minguante" and "Poema Negro". I intend to highlight the recurring elements associated with the problematization of writing and the writer and to explore the particularities of the long poem as a poetic form. To do so, I will mobilize theoretical texts about the poet's imaginary construction and his practice in the period corresponding to the end of the 19th century and the beginning of the 20th century and about the long poem, with emphasis on Paz (1993) and Caws (1996).
