Abstract

Osteomyelitis is a bone disease caused by bacterial infection and is difficult to treat due to its high microbial resistance. Bioceramics based on tricalcium phosphate (²-TCP) and silicate glasses are interesting materials for the manufacture of scaffolds due to their high biocompatibility, bioactivity, and osteoconduction. This research project aims to evaluate the in vitro biological behavior of ²-TCP/S53P4 scaffolds produced by direct paste printing (DIW), as well as their antimicrobial activity. The ²-TCP/S53P4 scaffolds obtained by DIW will be characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and mechanical strength. Subsequently, they will be submitted to an in vitro study. In this study, mesenchymal cells will be obtained from the bone marrow of rat femurs and differentiated into osteoblasts for the influence of biomaterial on cell activity. After plating, cell morphology analysis will be performed on the biomaterial, cell viability test, quantification of total protein content, and alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity, in addition to the formation of mineralization nodules. The antimicrobial and antibiofilm activity of the produced biomaterial will also be evaluated. The data will be statistically analyzed, aiming at applying the appropriate statistical test, with a conventional significance level of 5%. (AU)
