Abstract

The Landless Rural Workers Movement (MST) has a long history of struggle for the transformation of society, starting with the need to democratize access to land. Through their struggle, hundreds of thousands of families were settled by agrarian reform and conquered fractions of Brazilian territory. But, after the settlement, other struggles are necessary: for land rent and for the market. The movement also needs to dispute the market to ensure that peasant production and income are not subordinated to capital. Therefore, the objective of this research project is to understand the process of formation and spatialization of the rural markets of the MST. To this end, we will produce a database and a set of maps that will allow us to analyze the MST's peasant markets and the movement's contribution to food production in Brazil.
