Abstract

Shallow landslides are a frequent kind of mass movement in Brazilian territory. Thecreation of shallow landslide inventories is important for understanding the relation betweenconditioning factors and landslide occurrence. They are important for the analysisof susceptibility, vulnerability, and risk, besides being useful for urban planning. Thus, thegeneral aim of this research is the creation and assessment of a shallow landslide inventoryconstrued using Object-Based Image Analysis (OBIA) and its suitability in predictivemodels. The following steps shall be followed: (1) Semi-automatic creation of a landslideinventory based on the OBIA method; (2) Accuracy assessment of the landslide inventory;(3) Comparison of manually and semi-automatically created inventories; and (4) Assessmentand suitability of manually and semi-automatically created inventories in predictivemodels. The findings of this study will improve the methods for recognizing landslides inBrazil and demonstrate the advantages of using manually and semi-automatically createdlandslide inventories in susceptibility assessment.
