Abstract

This research proposal aims to promote a master's degree study based on obtaining the components of a metal-supported solid oxide fuel cell (MS-SOFC: Metal Supported-Solid Oxide Fuel Cell) electrochemical properties rows power generation from bioethanol in hybrid vehicles. MS-SOFC are electrochemical conversion devices capable of producing electricity from the direct oxidation of a fuel, such as hydrogen (H2) and bioethanol. One of the main advantages of the devices is the internal reforming of bioethanol into H2 directly in the MS-SOFC anode. Bioethanol, being a liquid renewable fuel, already has its distribution logistics in Brazil, it is much safer, easier to transport and store when compared to H2. In this context, the candidate will learn several techniques for obtaining metallic supports of ferritic stainless steel (FSS: ferritic stainless steel), electrodes (cathode and anode), electrolyte and DBLs (DBLs: diffusion barrier layers), among which we can mention: tape casting, screen printing, sol gel and PVD (PVD: physical vapor deposition). Each MS-SOFC obtained will be rigorously characterized by ex situ techniques such as BET, XRD, SEM, XPS, TEM and in operando such as Raman and mass spectroscopy and impedance spectroscopy (EIS), relaxation time distribution (DRT: distribution relaxation times) by EIS, open circuit voltammetry (CV-OCV) for surveying power density curves, tests of degradation over time (endurance) by chronopotentiometry and other main convenient ones.
