Abstract

Photo detection is a crucial step for any optical experiment. The detection accuracy and spectral response are the main factors determining which properties can be observed and on which time scales. The goal of this project is to design and build amplified photodetectors capable of measuring quantum noise. We will optimize the ratio between shot noise and dark noise, shot noise clearance, and the detector's spectral bandwidth. These detectors will be used to characterize the quantum states of light, in particular for measuring squeezed and entangled states.(AU)
