Abstract

The soybean is a plant with a high economic value and nutritional parameters for the world population. In addition, it is an important commodity of the Brazilian economy. The continuous growth of metals contamination in cropped soils has gained the attention of the regulatory agency and environmental organizations. In this context, Mercury (Hg) is considered a toxic metal and one of the main contaminants of soil and water. In this sense, the application of silica nanoparticles (SiO2NP) is showed as an alternative to remediate the mercury contamination in soybean cultivated in soil with high contamination amounts, hence, it can significantly reduce the impact on the environment. Therefore, this project aims to investigate the effects resulting from the mercury contamination during soybean cultivation and its possible species in the plant employing a speciation analysis. In addition, explore the effects in ionomic and proteomic levels of soybean with different transgenics. Also, the results can contribute to elucidate the SiO2NPs behavior in soybean parts and their translocation among roots, stems, and leaves. In this case, sample preparation procedures for extraction of SiO2NPs and spICP-MS/MS operational parameters will be evaluated. In this sense, this project has a multidisciplinary impact and it can contribute to many areas (e.g. analytical chemistry, biological, agriculture, and environmental science). (AU)
