Abstract

Each cultural equipment has unique requirements in terms of maintaining its physical and aesthetic integrity. Museums, in particular, are in many cases non-profit institutions, at the service of society and its development, open to the public. As such, they acquire, preserve, research, communicate, display and store movable collections. In addition, the main building itself is, many times, a heritage asset and part of the collection. It is in this context that it can be argued for the possibility to understand knowledge about the performance and functioning of its components, elements and systems in the stage of use of buildings, the later being the longest stage of this life cycle. The main goal of this research is to develop a conceptual model - but with potential for effective application in the future - of a management system in Facility Management (FM) for museums. For this, the materials and methods to be adopted come from Design Science Research (DSR), since it contributes to the existing knowledge in the search for solutions of complex and relevant issues in an innovative way. The use of DSR artifacts (constructs, model, method and instantiation) will focus on the following sub-areas, in an integrated manner: space management, technical management (maintenance), infrastructure management (general services and security) and administrative management (service contracts and budgets). This method will be applied, as case study, to an institution dedicated to learning, education, research and enjoyment: the Paulista Museum of the University of São Paulo (exhibition building, library and environments for teachers, education, sector administrative and storage) As likely outcomes, it is expected the mapping of this complex problem and the evaluation of the project, converging to the solution of the problem, the demonstration of the interaction between the artifacts and organizational elements. In this way, the research seeks to contribute to the development of tools to be made available to building managers.
