Abstract

Industrial heritage seats in Brazil find themselves in worrying states of conservation and although some of them continue to attract new appropriations and uses that keep them present and active in popular imagination, many are still not even recognized as important representatives of architectural, historical and cultural heritage to their population. Hence, this research project aims to understand and comprehend the Industrial Heritage's legacy in Limeira's city center amidst the years of 1890 and 1960, that is, a period marked by the arrival of Companhia Paulista's railway up until the move of the industries from the central area to the highway's surroundings, investigating Limeira's specificities in comparison to other cities in the state of São Paulo that have already had their industrial legacy documented. Using historical research and field research as methods, with identification, analysis and intersections of primary and secondary sources, reports and surveys, the purpose is todescribe and analyze railway adjacent heritage's properties, transformations that their installation and contemporary industrialization processes promoted on the urban layout and expansion, city's material features and the past and present social relation involving those Industrial Heritage's relations with their population.
