Abstract

Several species of microorganisms are involved in the etiology of Mastitis, classified as contagious or environmental. Of contagious origin, bovine mastitis caused by bacteria belonging to the Mycoplasma genus are of great concern in dairy properties. In addition to Mastitis in cattle, they may also be related to other manifestations such as Arthritis and Pneumonia in calves and heifers. The present study aims to identify the following mycoplasma species: Mycoplasma (M.) bovis, M. bovigenitalium, M. alkalescens, M. bovirhinis, M. arginine and M. californicum with screening from milk samples from bulks tanks milk, followed by identification in samples of clinical and subclinical mastitis. For this purpose, 568 milk samples from bulk tanks, from different regions of Brazil, will be evaluated by the conventional PCR technique. This proposal aims to provide greater knowledge about the species of mycoplasmas that occur in the etiology of mammary mycoplasmosis in Brazil. The results obtained in this study may contribute to the work carried out by milk quality consultants, universities, researchers and, also, assist producers with the improvement of the quality of milk produced in Brazil.
