Abstract

The project proposes the preparation of hybrid gels containing niobium pentoxide and naphthalenediimides. These are novel systems, potentially photochromic, electrochromic, and semiconducting. These gels are to be prepared by controlled hydrolysis and niobium alcoholates, prepared in turn from pentachloride. The gels will receive organic fraction of naphthalic diimides, by simple physical mixing. Another strategy will deal with binding them to the oxide network covalently. The gels will be characterized and their physical, photophysical and photocatalytic properties will be evaluated.
