Abstract

Change detection is an important task performed in remote sensing image that allows researchers and engineers to identify and evaluate modificationson land surfaces captured by multi-temporal satellite images. Analyzing problems such as deforestation (Barreto et al., 2016), rapid urbanization (Ban and Yousif, 2012) and glacier melting (Scher, Steiner, and McDonald, 2021) are of great importance to study the dynamics of regions sensitive to climate changes and human activity. Furthermore, the increase on availability of satellite images in the past years raises the challenge of applying computationally cheap methods to large images available over long periods. A review for change detection in multi-temporal remote sensing is given by Ban and Yousif (2016). This project intends the student to spend three months in the Laboratoire d'Informatique, Systmes, Traitement de l'Information et de la Connaissance, Universitýe of Savoie-Mont Blanc, at Annecy, France (LISTIC-USMB), to work under the supervision of Prof. Abdou Atto. The work will focus on the study and further development of wavelet statistical methodologies for change detection on multi-temporal satellite images, with the specific application of changes in urban areas.MSC 2010: Primary - 62G05, 42C40; Secundary - 62H35, 62P10.
