Abstract

This study will evaluate the factors that influence the transition from mixed to permanent dentition. A longitudinal observational study will be carried out with a sample of 820 previously evaluated children in the mixed dentition stage in a preliminary cross-sectional study. In the first evaluation in 2019, children who had fully erupted permanent incisors and first molars and present canines and deciduous molars were included. In the current reassessment, children who underwent orthodontic treatment during the period will be excluded. Intermaxillary relationships will be diagnosed in the anterior and posterior regions in the sagittal, transverse, and vertical planes. The Children's Perception Questionnaire for 11-14-year-olds (CPQ11-14) will be used to assess the impact on oral health-related quality of life (OHRQoL) and the Orthodontic Aesthetic Subjective Impact Score (OASIS) to determine the impact esthetics of malocclusion. Socioeconomic, environmental and contextual factors associated with the development of occlusion will also be evaluated. Bivariate analysis (Pearson's Chi-square test and relative risk, 95% CI) will be used to assess risk factors among the main variables in the transition from mixed to permanent dentition.
