Abstract

In the present project it will be proposed the synthesis of a catalyst supported by styrenic ion exchange resin and its evaluation in the glycerol conversion through different reactions. Different crosslinkers for formulation will be assessed, such as, for example, trimethylolpropane triacrylate - TMPTA, 1,7- Octadiene, among others, in view of a significant increase in catalytic activity compared to the lines of commercial resins, such as Amberlyst, which in turn is formulated from poly (styrene-co-divinylbenzene) PS-DVB. For the catalyst production, the suspension copolymerization process will be used followed by a sulfonation with sulfuric acid, and the characteristics of the copolymer, such as ion exchange capacity, pore volume, swelling index, apparent density, Fourier transform infrared, among others, will be analyzed. After synthesis of the sulfonated resins, reactions such as etherification, acetylation and acetalization of glycerol will be carried out in order to verify the efficiency of the resins as catalysts. It is expected to synthesize resins with relatively high ion exchange capacity, among other characteristics that can provide the desired efficiency in catalysis. (AU)
