Abstract

The transport of granular matter by a fluid flow is commonly found in nature and industry. In horizontal flows, the granular matter is entrained as a moving layer known as bed load. Although many studies were previously devoted to this problem, the motion of individual grains over the bed is still not fully understood. This Graduate Project (Iniciação Científica) consists in experimental measurements of the motion of grains on a moving granular bed by using a high-speed camera together with an image processing code. This code will identify and follow moving grains along the movie frames, and compute their trajectories.(AU)
