Abstract

The World Health Organization (WHO) estimates that 5.4 million people are annually affected in accidents with venomous snakes, and approximately one tenth of cases come to death or remain permanently deformed, which make these accidents a global public health problem. The search for alternatives that minimize the seriousness of the snake accident is growing, especially in natural sources as the medicinal plants, including Vochysia haenkeana, available in the snake region of interest in the study. The aim of this project is to evaluate the effect of lyophilized hydroalcoholic extract from Vochysia haenkeana barks against the neuromuscular blockade induced by Bothrops moojeni snake venom. The study design is ex vivo, using mice phrenic nerve-diaphragm preparations and conventional myographic technique, in three pharmacological models (preincubation, post venom and pre venom). The amounts of proteins in the pool from Tocantins (pool/TO) it will be quantified, and the histological analysis of diaphragm muscles as well resulting from the best pharmacological model against the blockade induced by the venom. As a result, it is expected to know the antivenom potential of Vochysia haenkeana, and thus enable its use as an adjuvant to serum therapy.
