Abstract

In a context strongly marked by global climate changes, uncertainties and with strong trends of changes in the dynamics of the water regime, there is an urgent need to advance in knowledge and innovation associated with the adoption of water management practices and implementation of environmental governance, with emphasis on water vulnerability in the face of climate variability, in an integrated, decentralized and interdependent perspective. New challenges arise to address the issue of environmental governance and its interfaces with the governance of water, energy, and food security on a scale that transcends the Metropolitan Region of São Paulo (RMSP), whose most widespread denomination is Macrometropolis Paulista. The present project aims to analyze in an interdisciplinary way, through 5 subprojects in the context of the São Paulo Macrometropolis, the set of processes that must compose an action and integration agenda of the different interfaces of environmental governance associated with water and its various uses. It, therefore, aims to understand and analyze the impacts of the broad processes of environmental degradation and increase in macro-metropolitan vulnerability, as well as to propose an innovative agenda for action and for the integration of the different interfaces of environmental governance in a context of climate variability.
