Introduction: The pandemic resulting from the COVID-19 virus spread rapidly, culminating in sudden changes in society and in the health of the population, especially the elderly, due to periods of social isolation. However, there is little information in the literature about changes in the health of individuals related to their intrinsic capacity and social participation in previous periods and during the pandemic context. Objective: To compare, in the period before and after the return of activities suspended due to the COVID-19 pandemic, data regarding both the intrinsic capacity and the social participation of participants of a University of the Third Age (U3A). Method: It will be a retrospective cohort study, whose sample will consist of 123 participants, over 50 years old, enrolled in a U3A in the city of São Carlos, SP, who were initially evaluated in October 2019 and who meet the inclusion criteria of the present study. Interviews with participants will be carried out in 2022, in which the baseline questionnaire will be applied again with sociodemographic questions and intrinsic capacity and social participation questions. Quantitative data from the questionnaire will be counted using absolute and relative frequency, mean and standard deviation, and pre and post pandemic analyzes will be performed by ANOVA and multiple regression correcting for age, sex and education. Expected Outcomes: It is intended to identify and compare domains of intrinsic capacity and social participation that have changed before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. Therefore, these results can support the development and improvement of interventions and public policies to face the effects of social isolation that this population faced.
