Abstract

Introduction: According to the World Health Organization's goal, it is expected that, by 2030, 70% of the babies will be exclusively breastfed until six months of age. However, to date, only 45.7% of Brazilian babies are exclusively breastfed up to six months. Objectives: To describe the main informations about breastfeeding that health professionals most often give mothers and to assess the impact of these informations on the duration of exclusive breastfeeding, as well as on the satisfaction of nursing mothers with the practice of breastfeeding. Methods: This is a cross-sectional study in which primiparous mothers of babies between 6 and 24 months of age will participate. They will respond to a questionnaire that will assess the quantity and the quality of the informations about exclusive breastfeeding provided by health professionals, as well as the duration of exclusive breastfeeding and the mother's satisfaction with breastfeeding. The questions in this form were based on the Food Guide for Brazilian Children under 2 years old, from the Ministry of Health. Results: It is expected to establish an association of the quality and the quantity of the information provided by these professionals with the indicators of exclusive breastfeeding up to six months and with the mother's satisfaction with breastfeeding. Keywords: breastfeeding; mother's satisfaction; guidance from health professionals.
