Abstract

Microorganisms can transform renewable raw materials into chemicals, biofuels, and bioproducts as alternatives to overcome industrial dependence based on fossil resources. Investments in the Biotechnological Industry and in emerging areas such as Synthetic Biology and Metabolic Engineering have increased in recent years, which demonstrates a growing trend in the bioeconomy. However, technical-scientific barriers regarding microorganisms' application equally low product yield and resistance to industrial conditions, prevent biotechnological products from being competitive compared to chemical industry products based on fossil resources. Thus, we aimed to search for (i) a new non-conventional microbial isolate with potential industrial properties (ii) new synthetic biology tools for molecular manipulation, and (iii) design a microbial isolate resistant to industrial conditions via Adaptive Evolution in Laboratory. Biological data mining associated with molecular characterization tools will provide biological parts and genes that confer resistance against microbial growth inhibitors (furfural and phenolics) from renewable biomass and for the new microbial isolate engineering. In the end, we expected that the engineered bacteria will be more robust under stress conditions.
