Abstract

Liver transplantation is the second most frequent solid organ transplant in Brazil, a fundamental procedure for the treatment of patients with severe liver diseases. However, the transplant does not mean a cure and after the surgery the recipient, will need health care for life. Cirrhosis is the leading cause of death from liver disease in the world. In Brazil, there is a reduction pattern in cirrhosis rates due to hepatitis C and B and an increase in cirrhosis rates due to alcohol among transplant patients between 2012 and 2020. Objective: to evaluate, among patients on the waiting list for liver transplantation, symptoms of mental disorders, social support, alcohol consumption and related problems. Method: a descriptive, cross-sectional study with adult patients awaiting care at the Liver Transplant Outpatient Clinic of a high-complexity hospital. Patients who agree to participate will complete the SRQ-20 Self-Report Questionnaire, the Medical Outcomes Study Social Support Scale (MOS-SSS), the Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test (AUDIT-C) and the Brief Problems Inventory (SIP-2L) . Expected Outcomes: Patients with greater social support are expected to have fewer symptoms of mental disorders, lower consumption, and fewer problems related to alcohol consumption. Keywords: liver transplantation; social support; mental disorders; alcohol consumption
