Abstract

Professional and career guidance is a field of knowledge and professional practice, which has been facing a series of challenges due to changes in opportunities and working relationships in the 21st century. Young people who are in transition from school to work are more subject to adaptation needs. Among the several important psychological constructs in this context, two will be highlighted: self-efficacy and determination. Self-efficacy for vocational choice is a construct that designates the belief that the individual has about his competence that he can perform a certain task to achieve goals, and that it has a fundamental role in learning and motivation. The individual with a belief in Functional Self-efficacy shows confidence to engage and persist in tasks and behaviors, even if difficulties arise during it, presenting cognitive flexibility to use strategies to solve other adversities. Grit, in turn, is a personality-related construct, being assumed to be relatively stable and relevant in achievement achievement processes. Claw has also been defined as perseverance to reach goals, even in adverse situations; and passion, portrayed by the consistency of interests, for a long period of time. The objective of the present research is to study the relationship between Self-efficacy for professional choice and Grit, through two assessment instruments; verify eventual differences in age, sex and sociodemographic variables. The sample will consist of 400 participants, aged between 18 and 20 years, both sexes and coming from different regions of Brazil. The instruments used will be: Sociodemographic Questionnaire, which aims to identify the characteristics of the participants, such as age, sex, education, type of school, if they work, type of occupation, if they do voluntary work and family income; Self-Efficacy Scale for Career Choice and the Grit Rating Scale that assesses two factors, Consistency of interests and Perseverance of effort, with 6 items assessing each factor. The research will be submitted to the Ethics Committee in Research with Human Beings of Universidade São Francisco.
