Abstract

This research proposal aims to collaborate in the historiographical construction of the development of Rural Sociology in its interface with Urban Sociology and Regional Planning in Latin America, a field in active motion in the second half of the 20th century, following the actions and interaction between the Centro Interamericano de Vivienda y Planeamiento (CINVA), an inter-American agency based in Colombia, and the Superintendência do Desenvolvimento do Nordeste (SUDENE), a Brazilian State institution. It intends to understand how the technical and intellectual circles related the production and reproduction of Latin American rural spaces to the processes of urbanization and Regional Planning in the subcontinent, highlighting the Regional Courses on Rural Housing promoted by CINVA until 1965 - when the Course was held in the city of Recife, Pernambuco, the central object of the research. This relevance stems from its understanding as a contact zone, a concept coined by Weinstein (2013) to highlight the effort to produce knowledge collectively in the subcontinent, considering its insertion in a broader context of alternative project-development for local Latin American realities.
