Abstract

The Modeling, in the context of Mathematics Education, can be understood as a way for teaching and learning processes, which seeks to value the social role of Mathematics. This approach has been studied in Brazil since the 1970s, in order to contribute to a mathematics teaching that values the knowledge and wisdom of the students. Although Modeling is present in different levels of Basic Education, the literature in the area has shown a certain shortage of studies on the use of Modeling in the early years of elementary school. Furthermore, in the research in the theme, there are reports of obstacles and resistance about its use in the classroom, considering teachers, students, families and school management. In this scenario, the main goal of this undergraduate research is to understand how Mathematical Modeling activities are developed in the early years of elementary school. To this end, the study will be based on the qualitative paradigm, of bibliographical nature. In this sense, we will analyze the annals of the National Conference on Modeling in Mathematics Education (CNMEM), which has been held biennially since 1999, and which completed its eleventh edition in 2019, in order to identify and analyze the experience reports that theme Modeling activities developed in the early years of elementary education. It is hoped that at the end of the research we can contribute to Mathematics Education, especially with Mathematical Modeling, aiming to improve the teaching and learning processes in the area, particularly in the early years of elementary education, as well as enabling reflections and learning for the training of teachers who teach Mathematics.
