Abstract

The aging process is not homogeneous in the population. It reflects different types of inequality, such as gender, race and income. These unfavorable conditions generate vulnerability, as individuals in these conditions have their capacity for self-determination reduced. Social vulnerability is a multidimensional phenomenon that is manifested by the relationship between individuals and the social context. This condition demands coping actions, characterizing resilience, defined as the ability of an individual to face adversity, maintaining an adaptive behavior during stressful events. In addition, the concept of subjective well-being (SWB) is associated with the individual's ability to recover from stressful events throughout the life course. The SWB is the assessment that an individual makes about his own life in relation to different domains. Objective: This study is exploratory and aims to investigate associations between social vulnerability, resilience scores and subjective well-being in a sample of 60 elderly people. The scores obtained by these elderly people in the investigated constructs will be compared, comparing elderly people with high and low social vulnerability.
