Abstract Viperid snakebite envenomation is characterized by local and systemic effects due to the concerted activity of a variety of toxins displaying synergistic and antagonistic functions. Each stage of the envenomation phenomenon generates important changes at the molecular, cellular, tissue and organismal levels. Among the challenges of studying venoms and envenomation, discovering the molecular mechanisms underlying the dynamics of envenomation, which includes systemic responses that progress from local cells and tissues to the entire organism, is crucial for the development of treatment alternatives. Considering that snakebite envenomation is a public health problem, recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO), and snakebite disability is recognized in category A of Neglected Tropical Diseases, the present post-doctoral fellowship plan aims to molecularly characterize the effects of Bothrops jararaca venom in an expand systems study of mammalian host, by applying proteomics and immunohistochemical approaches to analyze lung endothelial cell in culture and mouse lung tissue. | |
