Meanings attributed to the space, food and the Agroforestry System (SAF) by land reform settlers

Abstract

The Agroforestry System (SAF) is one of the agroecological and sustainable production models that has been implemented in rural land reform settlements for land use and food consumption. However, as a non-hegemonic form of production, it is not uncommon for settlers to face various difficulties in its implementation and the consolidation of a way of life that guarantees income and food sovereignty. The objective of this research is to investigate the meanings that the settlers involved in the SAF attribute to the way of producing food, to the space of the settlement, and to their own food. To achieve the objectives, the research adopts the perspective of the Environmental Psychology based on Historical-Cultural Psychology, with emphasis on the Vygotskian concept of experience. The participation of six participants from the Mário Lago settlement, located on the border of the city of Ribeirão Preto - SP, is planned. To promote the relationship of the researcher with the territory, a socio-environmental reading will be carried out. People linked to the settlement for at least a decade and involved with the SAF for at least five years will be invited to participate in the research. The following will be carried out: semi-structured interviews; participation in meetings of the producers' cooperatives, recorded in a field notebook; accompaniment of production and feeding activities; and walking around the settlement with photographic records. The interviews will be transcribed in full and photographic records will be made of the spaces considered important by the participants. The material produced will be analyzed based on the historical-cultural theoretical framework.
