Abstract Pierre Reverdy (1889-1960) was one of the most important French poets of the first half of the 20th century. Despite this, his poems are still little studied and translated in the Portuguese context. In this study, I try to fill this gap by producing the first commented translation of a complete book by the author, the book Ferraille published in 1937. It is representative of the double attitude of all his poetry: the ambivalent dialectic between the deep inner search and the resignation of poetic making. The relation with loneliness and the past, with loss and memory, with departure and ruin constitute themselves as the main philosophical themes of the book. To study this, it is intended, first, to present considerations about the author's life and work, his reception in Brazil, some of his poetic conceptions, seeking to understand how these are articulated with the way he constructs his poems. After that, there is a presentation of the book, describing its main themes, structure, and poems. Then, a critical review is carried out on theoretical bases already laid on aspects that characterize the poetic subject's attitude towards the creative process: the inner search and resignation as a creative gesture and the monological writing and the glissement as a world vision. Finally, it presents the translation approaches that guide the translation project, as well as the commented translations, justifying the choices made and their relation to the critical fortune . | |
