Abstract

Background: Developmental Coordination Disorder (DCD) is a common disorder in children, characterized by altered development of motor coordination and potential impacts on participation. However, there are no studies that investigate the participation of Brazilian children with DCD at home, school and community. Objectives: To compare the frequency, involvement, number of activities and total environmental support at home, school and community environment between children with typical development and DCD. Methodology: This is a cross-sectional study with guardians of children from public schools, that will compare the levels of participation of 30 children with typical development and those with DCD. This project is part of a larger study that will assign participants to the DCD and typical development groups. In the present study, the instrument used will be the Participation and Environment Measure - Children and Youth (PEM-CY), Brazilian version. Sample characterization information will be analyzed descriptively. Parametric tests (t test for independent samples) or non-parametric tests (Mann-Whitney test), according to the data distribution, will be used to compare the groups (DCD x typical development) regarding the variables frequency of participation, involvement, number of activities carried out, and general support from the environment in each of the sections (home, school, community) separately. All tests will be performed using SPSS 24.0. A significance level of 5% will be considered. Expected Outcomes: Children with DCD are expected to have reduced participation frequency, participation involvement, number of activities and overall environmental support at the three sections when compared to children with typical development.
