Abstract

This research focuses on the poet Joaquim de Souza Andrade, better known as Sousândrade, participant of the Brazilian romantic movement. The literary analysis proposed here will be made based on the Canto VI, of the poem O Guesa, published between 1867 and 1902. In addition to the aesthetic quality of his verses, which radicalize the romantic proposition of originality and individuality in artistic creation, it is intended to ascertain how the Canto VI can clarify the poet's positions about the government policies of Pedro II, emperor of Brazil.
