Abstract The growing association of the concept of "decolonization" with "global health" in scientific literature corresponds to the rise of a critical self-reflection movement on the colonial legacy of this discipline. The doctoral research investigates this phenomenon through a critical review of the literature, empirical research conducted in Jardim Colombo (Paraisópolis Complex, São Paulo, SP), and comparative case studies (peripherical responses to Covid-19 in 4 countries), analyzing how the decolonization of global health can contribute to sustainable responses to public health emergencies. The research is part of a larger project approved in the Trans-Atlantic Platform (T-AP) Recovery, Renewal, and Resilience in a Post-Pandemic World (RRR) - 2021 call, led in Brazil by the Advisor and by Anne-Emanuelle Birn internationally. Its general objective is to build an original approach to community responses to the Covid-19 pandemic from the theoretical framework of decolonization of global health, which: serves as a reference for the analysis of the data obtained in the context of the larger project; informs and is informed by empirical research in Jardim Colombo; contributes to advancing the literature in the field, among other forms by articulating critical studies of global health and the movement for decolonization of global health; and helps to set practices for responding to future health crises that challenge the predominant approaches in the field of global health.
