Abstract

This research proposes the study of the reception, acclimatization and appropriation of Fernando Pessoa in France through the intertextual prism. Based on a reading proposal that is independent of the horizon of expectations projected by the writer, and relatively distant from the Portuguese interpretive community, the present investigation focuses on the literary bases on which the fusion of two distinct cultural horizons, French and Portuguese, and their new effects of meaning on the poet's image. In the scope of this investigation, the interest in how Pessoa is acclimatized in France is not only a purpose in itself, but also a methodological proposal that opens new paths for his work. This correlational map of Fernando Pessoa with authors from the French canon, as well as non-French authors referenced by the French critical fortune, is organized around five subsequent steps. The research will start from a first critical moment of the French reception of Pessoa, managed by 1) Pierre Hourcade and 2) Armand Guibert. It will then focus on 3) Robert Bréchon's fundamental approach, accompanied by a intertextual bibliographical selection. Finally, it will address, from a comparative perspective, the 5) fictional appropriation of Pessoa-Bernardo Soares through Charles Dubois, protagonist of the novel Mes vies parallèles (2023), by Julian Leschiera.
