Abstract

The Marajó archipelago has one of the highest rates of biological and cultural diversity on the planet. It is home to more than 500,000 inhabitants, comprising different ethnicities and cultures, such as indigenous peoples, quilombolas, riverside dwellers, artisanal fishermen and shellfish gatherers, among other traditional communities and forest peoples (Marin et al. 2015). In addition, the archipelago is home to a faunal and floristic biodiversity of great ecological importance (Rodrigues & Szlafsztein 2011). Despite this, large economic and infrastructure projects are planned at the mouth of the Amazon River and in the coastal zone of Pará, such as ports, railways and oil and gas exploration, causing serious impacts and threats to the socio-biodiversity of the archipelago. In this sense, we will carry out a diagnosis of socio-environmental conflicts and threats to local and regional socio-biodiversity generated by the development model implemented in the coastal zone of Pará, focusing our efforts on the traditional fishing community of Jubim, municipality of Salvaterra. This evaluation will be done through participatory-action-research (Kindon et al. 2007) and an intercultural (Rist & Dahdouh-Gebas 2006) and ethnooceanographic (Moura 2017) research approach, where we will use some participatory research methods, such as focus groups (Bernard 2011), DPSIR (Gari et al. 2015, Lewison et al. 2016) and FOFA (Navarro-Martínez et. al 2020), as well as semi-structured interviews with traditional experts, aiming at integration and co-production between traditional and academic knowledge. In order to establish a relationship of trust (raport) with the members of the community, we also intend to carry out participant observation (Bernard 2011) in the first trips to the field. We hope that the dialogue of knowledge between the various stakeholders and transdisciplinarity can support the visibility and treatment of socio-environmental conflicts, as well as in the decolonial coastal management of the Jubim community.
