Abstract

The impact of food systems on human health and the environment has become an important area of study, as they play an important role in the current global syndemic of obesity, malnutrition and climate change. Food systems are made up of food production, food environments and food consumption, and are influenced by factors such as the economy and climate change. The food production system in Brazil is a significant contributor to greenhouse gas emissions and has weaknesses that can lead to crises, as seen with COVID-19. By studying food production, we can better understand the ways in which food systems can be designed to promote health and well-being, reduce inequalities and support sustainable development. This work aims to advance knowledge and fill gaps on the impact of different food production chains on the components of the global syndemic. This is an integrative literature review, based on a literature review of scientific articles and official documents in Portuguese, English and Spanish, with no search time restriction. The research results may contribute to political and social solutions, increase scientific dissemination and subsequently be used to support the conceptual model of Brazilian food systems.
