Abstract

The objective of this project is to analyze the constitutionalization of the right to water (CWR), only recognized in 2010 as a fundamental right by the UN. This objective should be achieved through (1) mapping the occurrence of CWR throughout history, based on two empirical databases (Constitute and Constitutions Analysis Portal), (2) analyzing the evolution of the debate on CWR, based on the selection of cases in different historical periods and the (3) contextualization of the CWR in comparison to other human rights, constitutionalized much longer ago. The results of this project will serve as a basis for the inclusion of the right to water in the CSSM database.
