Abstract

This project supports the execution of research aimed at understanding how journalism addresses the issue of social media platform regulation. To achieve this, an analysis will be conducted on the framing of publications from Folha de S. Paulo and O Globo during the period when Bill 2,630 was about to be voted on in the Chamber of Deputies in May 2023. The intended dissertation will be organized into two chapters in addition to the analysis of the news articles. In the first chapter, the history of the press will be recapped, the concept and dynamics of social networks will be introduced, and finally, the transformed journalism will be revisited in a literature review that aims to show the changes in work, media economy, and the technology that supports the activity. In the second chapter, concepts of social network regulation will be introduced, and a study of three legal texts (NetzDG, DSA, and Bill 2,630) will be conducted to support the subsequent analysis of the news articles. The research is justified by investigating the press's behavior towards an issue of great importance to communication and society as a whole, potentially indicating the independence of journalism in the platform environment and, at the same time, presenting signs of a shift in the positioning of two widely circulated newspapers regarding some type of regulation in the communication field.
