The senses of Olido: cultural dynamics and urban transformations in a central city in São Paulo

Abstract

This project proposes to present, based on ethnography that will be carried out at the Centro Cultural Olido, how to place and understand it in this centrality in São Paulo identified as Centro Novo. From the analysis of the political and urbanistic dimension, via the discourse of public power agents and the strategies of municipal governance, in the face of everyday dynamics, considering the production of experiences and ways of using its various users. Both sides produce meanings for this spatiality, so approaching these discursivities, in order to order the clues present in these actions and enunciations, can reveal important aspects of this articulated negotiation between citizen, cultural equipment and city. It also allows for the genesis of the question: are the senses at play in this space consistent in a single direction or do they constitute a resistance, when questioned? In addition to this proposition, the intention is also to observe whether, in exploring the contemporary urban life of Olido, it is possible to find traces of a "way of using" that is related to the practice of "going to the cinema", reminiscent of another temporality and the protagonism of the locality, while street cinema. For this purpose, the following will be used: the category of analysis "stain", the reading of the city dweller as an "agent" and its potential to "make the city", the ethnography of duration, a strategy of the anthropological look based on "from near and from within". in contrast to "from outside and from afar" and, finally, the interpretation of tactical practices and strategies identified in the ethnographic exercise.
