Abstract

One of the research areas of the NuBBE group (Nucleus of Biosynthesis, Bioassays, and Ecophysiology of Natural Products) at the Araraquara Chemistry Institute (UNESP) focuses on the identification of novel cyclic peptides produced by plants, a field of natural product research that is still understudied in Brazil and was started at NuBBE. The studies of peptides in the Annonaceae taxon, already explored by groups abroad, are unprecedented in Brazil, and this is the first chemical study of great importance for the taxon and for the peptide profile of plant species in Brazilian biodiversity. This project aims to work with seeds of two Annonaceae species, Annona acutiflora and Annona sylvatica, using environmentally friendly analytical methodologies to fractionate and isolate cyclic peptides accumulated in the species that will be studied. The characterization and determination of the amino acid sequence present in the structure of the peptides under analysis will be carried out using cutting-edge equipment present at NuBBE. (AU)
