Abstract

Fission Track Thermochronology (FTT) can be integrated with other methods, such as U-Pb. While the TTF preferentially provides information on low temperature events, the U-Pb registers the crystallization age of apatites (intermediate temperature events). This dual information is essential for sedimentary provenance studies (source areas) as well as the definition of geological events of magmatism, metamorphism and sedimentation and crustal accretion events in the most diverse tectonic environments. Therefore, this project aims to apply FTT and U-Pb in apatite in the Antarctic Peninsula. The correlation between the geological units that make up the Antarctic Peninsula is crucial to understand the configuration of tectonic processes that occur on the margin of the Antarctic continent. As there are significant uncertainties in the age of its igneous and sedimentary components, the data obtained in this project will be able to reveal information about the evolution of the area that occurred during the Mesozoic.
