Abstract

Decays of the tau lepton have a rich phenomenology which allows for different precision tests of the standard model. Leptonic decays can be used to test, for example, lepton universality. Exclusive hadronic decays can give valuable information about hadronic interactions while inclusive hadronic decays can be used in precision tests of QCD, notably the determination of the strong coupling. In this project, the student will calculate different decays, with and without mass corrections, both leptonic and hadronic, inclusive and exclusive, in order to become familiar with the physics involved and with the phenomenology of these decays. The main objective is to prepare the student for a Master's in a related subject.
