Abstract

Peripheral arterial disease (PAD) is an aspect of atherosclerotic disease in the peripheral territory of the human body, being a chronic and progressive condition that affects the lumen of the arteries forming cholesterol plaques, leading to the occlusion of these vessels, especially those of the lower limbs. Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a disease with progressive and irreversible loss of kidney function, which also affects arteries, calcifying them. As a result, patients who have both diseases have an intensification of the signs and symptoms of atherosclerotic disease, evolving more quickly to critical ischemia, requiring surgical revascularization to reverse the condition and avoid amputation of the affected extremity. However, it is inferred that patients with chronic kidney disease have reduced patency in surgical reconstructions, which can lead to amputation of the extremity, as well as other cardiovascular complications (death and death). Therefore, we propose a systematic review of the literature (with possible meta-analysis), to investigate the impact of chronic kidney disease on the patency of surgical revascularizations, as well as its association with cardiovascular complications.
