Abstract

The branch of implant surface engineering has been explored, mainly on the topography and chemistry of the surface of implants in order to increase osseointegration. The literature has suggested that the addition of calcium, for surface modification in titanium implants, can intensify the intrinsic osteogenic capacity of this material, since calcium participates in numerous stages of the bone repair process. Thus, the present research project aims to evaluate, in a preclinical in vivo test, the peri-implant repair of titanium implants with surfaces treated by the addition of calcium installed in rat tibiae. Twenty male rats (Wistar) will be divided into two groups according to the implant to be installed in the tibias, being: the Ti-NF group: a titanium implant (4 mm x 2.2 mm) will be installed in the tibias with the surface treated by blasting and double acid etching; the Ti-Ca²z group: a titanium implant (4 mm x 2.2 mm) will be installed in the tibias with the surface treated by sandblasting and double acid etching and modified by the addition of calcium. On day zero, implants will be installed in all animals. On the 7st and 28th postoperative days, the fluorochrome calcein will be administered, and on the 14th and 42th postoperative days, the fluorochrome red alizarin will be administered. Euthanasia will be performed 17 and 45 days after implant placement. The collected specimens will be processed for calcified analyzes (histometry of direct bone/implant contact and confocal laser microscopy for analysis of mineral apposition rate) and for decalcified analyzes (histological and histometric of the percentage of newly formed bone tissue). After analysis of normality and homoscedasticity, the data will be submitted to the most appropriate tests with a significance of 5% (pd0.05).
