Abstract

The aim of this study is to evaluate the effect of the association of Carbopol polymer to sodium fluoride with stannous chloride to protect against erosive enamel wear. Polished bovine enamel specimens will be prepared and measured for initial microhardness and profilometry. The specimens will be divided into four groups (n = 15): APF - Acidulated Fluoride Phosphate Gel - APF (12300 ppm of Fluoride, pH=4.6); C pos - Sodium Fluoride + Carbopol Gel 980 (7500 ppm F, Carbopol, pH=4.5); C negCarb - Carbopol 980 gel/placebo (without active ingredients, pH=4.5); F+Sn+Carb - Sodium Fluoride + Tin Chloride + Carbopol 980 Gel (7500 ppm F, 15000 ppm Sn, Carbopol, pH=4.5). The specimens will be subjected to a cycle of erosion and remineralization for 5 days, which will consist of immersion in 1% citric acid (pH 2.3) for 5 min, 4x/day, with 2 h intervals of exposure to saliva, in vitro, among the challenges. The treatment with the gels will be done on the first day, for 1 min, after 30 min of exposure to saliva after the first erosive challenge and the final microhardness reading will be performed. The data of the specimens will be subjected to appropriate statistical analysis, considering the significance level of 5%.
