Abstract

Introduction: Patient safety is a priority in worldwide public health. It is estimated that 1 in each 10 patients is at risk for an adverse event during hospital care in high income countries. The child-patient is especially vulnerable to these events and national literature about this issue is scarce. It is possible that the COVID-19 pandemic has modified these events. Objective: To evaluate the incidents related to health care in children and adolescents in the state of São Paulo, before and during the COVID-19 pandemic. Methods: A before and after retrospective, observational, and quantitative study, in partnership with ANVISA and the Society for Quality of Care and Patient Safety (SOBRASP). The data will be collected from NOTIVISA. All incident notifications about patients aged < 18 years in the state of São Paulo will be included in two periods: between January 2017 and December 2019 (historical control) and between January 2020 and December 2022 (during the pandemic). Differences between proportions will be calculated by the chi-squared test, differences between means by the t Student's test and between medians by the Mann-Whitney test. A statistical significance of p < 0,05 will be considered. Expected results: It is intended to contribute to the development of health programs directed at children's safety that can help reduce the incidents associated with pediatric care, especially in the post-pandemic scenario.
