Abstract

Sociospatial fragmentation, the basic concept of this research, is the process that mediates the current relations between space and society in urban spaces. The logic of segregating sociospatial production intensified throughout the cities production process has become more complex and is reinforced by regulations, in whose legal framework parameters are established for the processes of territorial expansion and urban dispersion, from different spheres of the government, which are associated with hegemonic economic agents. In the context of two medium-sized Brazilian cities, one located in western São Paulo, Presidente Prudente, and the other in Dourados, in Mato Grosso do Sul, the aim is to: - explore the spatial dimension of changes in the different contents of inequalities and patterns of sociospatial differentiation ; - evaluate the reasons that lead to the restructuring of the center-periphery logic, through successive expansions of the municipal urban fabric, based on the analysis of zoning policies and changes in the laws of the urban perimeter, - study the degree of urban dispersion, resulting from the implementation of new residential areas aimed at different socioeconomic standards.
