Abstract

Brazil is a continental country with more than 200 million inhabitants and a population concentrated on the southeast/south axis. Furthermore, recent reports in the literature indicate that Brazilians' food consumption habits are influenced by the ethnic, cultural and financial diversity of families. The Family Budget Survey of the Brazilian Institute of Geography and Statistics on family budgets (POF 2017-2018) showed that the acquisition of fish for home consumption by Brazilians was 2.8 kilograms per capita/year, a number much lower than that indicated by FAO-UN of 12kg/inhabitant/year. However, the availability of POF 2017-2018 microdata in 2023 made it possible to carry out a detailed investigation of food expenditure data in the country, including cross-referencing and joint analysis of a wider range of variables. Thus, the objective of this research will be to investigate the influence of location (size of cities); age and education of the person responsible for the household; presence of children and adolescents; and the yield, among other variables, in the consumption of different types of fish in the Southeast Region. To this end, POF 2017-2018 microdata will be obtained digitally from the original IBGE database and stored in SQL databases. Subsequently, the fraction of data referring to the Southeast Region and its set of variables will be tabulated and reorganized to be subjected to descriptive statistics techniques (means and variances) and multivariate, namely: Crombach's alpha test; principal component analysis; cluster analysis (tree clustering and two-way joining); correspondence analysis. It is also intended to carry out analyzes with the States of São Paulo and Minas Gerais separately. The entire statistical framework will be executed with the help of Tibco's Statistica 14 package. At the end of this study, it is expected to obtain an important set of information that can support the fish farming agri-food chain in the establishment of marketing strategies and understand, mainly, the characteristics of fish consumption by families with lower monthly incomes.
