Abstract Both ppGpp signaling and the SOS response, induced by DNA damage, are universal in bacteria and central to survival in the environment, pathogenesis and antimicrobial resistance. The project aims to use bacterial genetics, molecular biology and biochemistry techniques to understand the interaction between these two responses in the opportunistic pathogen Pseudomonas aeruginosa and the model bacterium Bacillus subtilis. In this project we will analyze whether the induction of one response is dependent or influenced by the other and how this intersection occurs, as well as the biological consequences of this interaction. We will also investigate the yet poorly explored role of ppGpp in the modulation of transcription under normal growth conditions. | |
